Artist's Comments

This is a photograph of a pot of dying flowers on my window still. I like the shallow depth of field which focues the viewers attention on the dying flowers. The recessed and dwindling form and shape of the flowers is juxtaposed with a warm wash of colors and a "vanilla sky". The light above the flowers seem to give "hope" to the dying imagery of the photograph. I like this best among all the photos that I've taken since I got the DSLR 2 months ago.

I used the kit lens of the Nikon D5 for this photo. The shallow depth of field was achieved as the subject was very far away from the background, thus muting the background without having to use a telephoto lens. I edited the image slightly, with a Selective Color filter (again) to boost the color saturation, and with CS2's new Spot Healer to get rid of the blemishes on the glass behind the flowers.

The only thing I really dislike about this photo is the building on the left of the background. Yet it can't be remedied given the constrants of location.
